PREVIOUS EXHIBITION:

Angell Gallery
Toronto, ON
August 25th, 2011. 6-9PM
August 27th, 2011. 1-4PM

Angell Gallery will host two performances of a new installation project developed in collaboration with Ashleigh Semkiw and Patricia O'Connor.

"Siren" is a performative sculpture which responds to the voice of singer Ashleigh Semkiw, as well as surrounding spectators. A vast plot of white silk pours out in all directions from the singer's dress, held up at various points by coloured strings. As the performer sings, the strings spin and tug on the silk, creating choppy waves in the fabric. Each string responds to a different range of frequencies in the human vocal range, making each performance a unique choreography of voice.

An earlier version of this project was first exhibited at Spoke Club in 2010, curated by Natalie MacNamara of O'Born Contemporary.

The first performance will be held August 25th, 2011, from 6PM - 9PM, coinciding with Angell Gallery's Alex McLeod exhibition opening.

The second performance will be held August 27th, 2011, from 1PM - 4PM.

NEWS:

DECEMBER 5th:

Video documentation of "Siren" added.

AUGUST 24th:
My latest project, "Siren", opens at Angell Gallery tomorrow and on Saturday. I've got a picture for you, above.

AUGUST 8:
I have finally added a portion of the site dedicated to incomplete works: the "IN PROGRESS" category on at the bottom of the left menu bar. A couple such works are posted. Some of the projects I will post here are ideas just waiting for the right time to be executed, some are waiting for funding, and others are just ideas that I haven't done yet done anything with. I hope that posting them here will give me incentive to finish them, or finally give up on them.

JULY:
My bi-annual site update is completed! Sorry it took so long; I was in Chicago for a while.

Some of the things that I'm excited to have finally posted on the website are my most recent project THE INGENIOUS GENTLEMAN DON QUIXOTE OF LA MANCHA, which you see above, as well as Wall of Deaf and some other paintings from Engine Gallery last summer.

Also, at long last I've got a link to the very cool video by Canadian Art Magazine and Bravo! Television on installation artists, featuring Shary Boyle, Brendan Fernandes, and myself.

Hopefully more to come.
